Changing children’s lives since 1931! For 90 years, Stewart House has been a haven for disadvantaged public school children across NSW and ACT. We are the only facility of our kind in Australia. What is remarkable about this is that we are a not-for-profit organisation, originally established in 1931 when the NSW Department of Education and the Teachers Federation staff identified a need to care for children suffering through the Great Depression. Every year 1,600 public school children identified by their school principal as 'in need" attend our haven next to Sydney's Curl Curl beach at no cost to their parents or carers. These children encounter disadvantages that no child should experience. During a 12-day stay, they receive dental, optical, hearing and medical screening and treatment. Children participate in educational programs and excursions designed to develop social and emotional skills, build self-esteem, and improve overall well-being. This experience provides children with a much-needed break from their current circumstances. The Stewart House Program has inspired children to see beyond the present and to have real hope and positive aspirations for their future. https://www.stewarthouse.org.au/health-services/
